This is a story of grit and determination about a group of unemployed youth from a remote village in Jawhar taluka in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. Our journey with them started over a year ago – what caught our attention was their enthusiasm and willingness to do something more meaningful in life.
After a few rounds of discussion, the consensus was that they would like to start a poultry farm and so began their technical training at site & at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dahanu on the desired vocation.
Panchayat Samiti in Jawhar approved the proposal to set up the poultry farm under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It was a unique proposal because for the first time we were combining poultry sheds allocated to multiple beneficiaries into one large unit to exploit economies of scale.
While the whole structure was funded under the NREGA scheme, Tata Motors played a very important role by purchasing the fam equipment for them.
This is a wonderful example of cooperation and convergence of effort among a government body, a private organisation and an NGO for the common good of the society
