This is another big project - brick making unit in Raytale village in Jawhar taluka in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. This was started by a group of Primitive and Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) – Adim Swayamsahayta Samuha.
Traditionally, all the 20 men and their families have been migrating to Silvassa for almost 8 months every year to make bricks – an extremely labor intensive and difficult job. But like any other migrant community, they have been victims of exploitation by middlemen.
Recently, the Panchayat Samiti in Jawhar constructed “pucca” houses for them in their village (Gharkul Yojana). Just to ensure that they stay in these houses permanently and do not migrate again, it was decided to help them with an opportunity for livelihood.
And thus emerged the Brick Making Unit in the same set up. While the project has been funded by Manav Vikas Department through MSRLM and Panchayat Samiti, Jawhar, NeevJivan Foundation has trained the beneficiaries on entrepreneurship skills and is constantly guiding them in execution of the project.
