As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative, two companies helped in setting up two Chikoo Processing Centers in Dahanu.
Manilkara Zapota, popularly known as Chiku or Sapota is tagged as Geographical Indicator (GI) to Palghar district. GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
M/s. Embitel Technologies and M/s. MESPACK India Pvt. Ltd. are deeply involved in creating livelihood opportunities for the underprivileged women in rural India - They have tied up with Neevjivan Foundation as their implementation partner to deliver these projects.
Together, we set up two new Chikoo Processing Centers in Dahanu - both of them are run by Self Help Groups - Santoshi Mahila Bachat Gath, Vill. Kosbad and Divyani Mahila Bachat Gath, Vill. Bawda.
Both these SHGs comprise of 10 tribal women each and these projects provide an alternate source of income for their families which in turn helps in preventing their migration to the cities in search of greener pastures.
